Final Year Business Studies Student at DCU
Background
I first developed an interest in Business Analytics through my long-standing passion for problem solving, mathematics, and working with computers. These interests naturally aligned when I began studying Business at Dublin City University (DCU), where I am specialising in Data Analytics. From early in my degree, I was drawn to the analytical side of business, enjoying the challenge of using data to understand patterns, improve decision-making, and solve real-world problems.
During first year, my exposure to Business Analytics tools such as Excel, Jamovi, and Tableau further strengthened my interest in the field. The hands-on and practical nature of analytics modules stood out to me, allowing me to move beyond theory and actively work with data. These experiences confirmed my desire to pursue analytics as a career path and motivated me to continue developing my technical and analytical skill set.
PwC Placement
In my third year, I completed an 11-month placement at PwC as a Risk Assurance Internal Auditor. This role provided valuable exposure to a professional services environment and allowed me to apply analytical thinking in a real-world business context. Throughout my placement, I worked with data to assess risk, evaluate controls, and support internal audit engagements, gaining a strong understanding of governance, risk, and assurance processes. The experience strengthened my attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and professional communication skills.
Final Year at DCU
Now in my final year at DCU, I continue to build on my analytical foundation through my specialisation in Data Analytics, working with SQL, Python, CSS and HTML. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to combine business knowledge with data-driven insights and technology. With a strong academic background, practical industry experience, and a genuine passion for analytics, I am eager to pursue a career where I can continue learning and delivering value through data.
